Is signing a ticket an admission of guilt?

A common misconception is that when an individual is given a traffic citation, be it criminal (such as one of these, a DUI or DWLSR) or civil (such as speeding, careless driving, or failure to wear a seatbelt), that signing the ticket is a confession of guilt. It is not. You are required by law to sign the ticket as proof of receipt of that ticket. Willful failure to do so may result in being charged with another criminal traffic offense.
