Is a burglary a kind of theft charge?

A common misconception is that a Burglary is a theft charge. It is not. This misconception comes from the fact that Burglaries are commonly committed with the intent to steal something from the place being burglarized. A Burglary is more closely tied to the crime of trespass, as a Burglary is basically a trespass with the intent to commit a crime in the place being trespassed upon. For example, a burglary can be committed with the intent to commit other crimes such as battery. This can be even more serious than if committed with intent to commit a theft.
