Signs that Another Driver May be Drunk or Drugged

One of the most dangerous things we do each day is get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. When there is a drunk or drugged driver, the risks go up for everyone. In fact, Florida law punishes someone driving under the influence of drugs to the same degree as someone driving drunk. By being able to identify the signs of a drunk or drugged driver, you can help remain safe on the road.

Here are some common signs that another driver may be impaired due to drug or alcohol use:

1. When a driver is weaving in and of lanes, it can be a sign of extreme impairment

2. Tailgating another driver or being overly aggressive

3. Quickly speeding up or slowing down

4. Driving into the curb or shoulder of the road

5. Driving on the part of the road which is not intended for vehicle use

6. Having a slow response to traffic signals such as stop lights

7. Stopping suddenly or braking hard without a reason

8. Driving without headlights on at night

9. Signaling but not turning or changing lanes

10. Driving extremely slow

11. Driving against traffic or on the wrong side of the road

What to do if you encounter a Drugged or Drunk Driver

If you are driving and notice a driver showing any of the signs indicated above or otherwise suspect that they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol you should put as much space between you and the other vehicle as you are able. Do not try and pass the other vehicle. Decelerate and allow them to get farther ahead. If you can, commit their license plate and a description of the car to memory and call 911.

I was referred to Draper Law by my father in-law after being hit from behind in an auto accident. I didn't realize, at the time, what an important decision I was making by hiring a personal injury attorney to represent me. Charles Draper took the time to explain the process and what I could expect. His professional team was there for me every step of the way through a long, and often complicated, legal experience. I just want to express my sincerest gratitude for all the efforts that were taken by Charlie and his team on my behalf in obtaining a settlement on my case.
