What Are The Different Types of Alimony?

Listen as Kissimmee family law attorney, Linda Gruszynski describes the types of alimony or spousal support that may be available to you or that you may be required to pay.

Alimony or Spousal Support Types

This support could be paid on a temporary or permanent basis. Temporary alimony provides the spouse with support for a specific period of time, or in order to achieve a goal, such as taking classes to obtain a skill. These may be referred to as “durational” or “bridge the gap” alimony, respectively.

Permanent alimony, also known as “traditional” alimony, can be awarded to a spouse following the dissolution of a marriage of seventeen years or more if they are older or cannot acquire the skills needed to support themselves. These payments are usually monthly or follow the person’s pay schedule. They can also be lump sum payments. Watch the video to learn more.
