1 Killed In Multi-Vehicle Truck Accident In Kenansville

TruckFire3

Truck accidents involve a lot of weight. These vehicles can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds and a collision can cause catastrophic injuries and even death.

Sadly, a multi-vehicle truck accident in Osceola County has left one person dead. The fatal crash occurred on the afternoon of January 14 in Kenansville.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the accident scene to see three vehicles involved: two semi trucks and a pickup truck. The crash happened at State Road 60 and Peavine Road.

According to investigators, the first semi truck was heading west on State Road 60 when it failed to stop behind a second semi truck. As a result, the second truck’s trailer was rear-ended by the first semi truck.

The impact caused the second semi truck to collide with the rear side of a pickup truck. The first semi truck became engulfed in flames. The driver of that truck died at the accident scene.

The driver of the other semi truck was taken to Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and remained at the accident scene.

The crash is still under investigation.

Dangers of Semi Truck Accidents

Semi truck accidents are among the most serious and legally complex crashes. These crashes are especially dangerous because of the size, weight, and force involved. When a commercial truck collides with a smaller vehicle, the consequences can be fatal. Some of the most serious dangers include:

  • Severe injuries and fatalities. A fully loaded semi truck can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, making it far harder to stop and far more destructive on impact. Occupants of passenger vehicles are at a much higher risk of traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, amputations, and death.
  • Longer stopping distances. Semi trucks require significantly more distance to stop than cars. Sudden traffic changes, congestion, or bad weather can lead to rear-end collisions that crush smaller vehicles.
  • Jackknife and rollover crashes. If a truck’s trailer swings out of alignment or the vehicle rolls over, it can block multiple lanes of traffic, causing multi-vehicle pileups and secondary crashes.
  • Underride accidents. Smaller vehicles can slide underneath a truck’s trailer in a collision, often leading to catastrophic or fatal injuries, even at lower speeds.
  • Hazardous cargo risks. Many semi trucks carry flammable, toxic, or corrosive materials. A crash can result in fires, explosions, or chemical spills that endanger drivers, first responders, and nearby communities.
  • Complex liability issues. Truck accidents often involve multiple responsible parties, including the driver, trucking company, cargo loaders, or maintenance providers. This can delay compensation and make recovery more difficult for victims.
