5 Injured In 2-Car Crash In Meadow Woods

Florida drivers are often in a hurry, causing them to rush through stop signs. This is called failure to yield and it is a common traffic issue that often results in serious accidents.
This recently happened in an Orange County neighborhood. A two-car crash caused injuries to five people. The accident happened on the evening of July 30 in Meadow Woods.
Two vehicles collided at Landstar Boulevard and Iowa Woods Circle. A 78-year-old man from Orlando was driving a Subaru Outback with a passenger, a 49-year-old Orlando woman. He was at the intersection of Iowa Woods Circle and Landstar Boulevard. He was at a stop sign, waiting to make a left turn onto Landstar Boulevard.
As he turned, he failed to yield to a Honda Civic traveling on Landstar Boulevard. A 19-year-old man from Orlando was driving the Honda. He had two passengers: two Orlando men, ages 18 and 20. The Subaru collided with the front left side of the Honda. The impact caused the Honda to go off the road and hit a tree.
Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the accident scene, as the Honda caught fire in the crash. The three occupants were trapped inside for some time but were successfully rescued.
All five people were seriously injured in the crash. They were taken to a local hospital, where they are in critical condition. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Failure to Yield: What to Know
A failure to yield is a traffic violation that happens when a driver does not give the legal right-of-way to another car, bicyclist, or pedestrian. Failure to yield the right of way is one of the most common causes of serious traffic accidents. Drivers who fail to yield may pull into the path of another vehicle, ignore traffic signs or signals, or misjudge another road user’s speed or distance. The consequences can range from property damage to catastrophic injuries and fatalities.
Failure to yield can cause the following:
- Intersection collisions. Intersections are the most common location for failure-to-yield accidents. When a driver enters an intersection without yielding, the result is often a side-impact collision, which can cause severe injuries because the sides of vehicles provide less protection than the front or rear.
- Head-on crashes. Failing to yield while turning left or entering a roadway can place a vehicle directly in the path of oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision. These crashes frequently occur at high speeds and have a high risk of fatal or life-altering injuries.
- Pedestrian accidents. Drivers who fail to yield at crosswalks or intersections may strike pedestrians who have the legal right-of-way. Because pedestrians have little protection, these accidents often result in serious injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, broken bones, or death.
- Bicycle collisions. Cyclists are especially vulnerable when motorists fail to yield while turning, opening a vehicle door, or entering a roadway. These crashes can throw cyclists from their bikes, leading to severe injuries.
