Orlando Man Killed In Multi-Vehicle Pedestrian Accident

Some people enjoy walking from place to place, but they face the risk of a pedestrian accident. Pedestrian accidents can be deadly, especially when a person is hit by not one, but two vehicles.
Sadly, this recently happened to a Florida resident. The 76-year-old man from Orlando died after he was hit by two cars in Orange County.
The accident occurred on the morning of September 7 on Apopka Vineland Road, south of Palm Parkway. The man was walking into the southbound lanes of Apopka Vineland Road. He was outside of a marked crosswalk when he walked in front of a Nissan Altima. The front right side hit him, throwing him into the outside lane. He was then hit by another vehicle, a Nissan Cube.
There was a driver and passenger inside the Nissan Altima. The driver of the Nissan Cube was the sole occupant. None were injured. There was allegedly a third vehicle involved, a white SUV, but it left the accident scene without stopping. The driver of the Nissan Cube had also left the scene initially but later returned. The vehicle had undercarriage damage consistent with the crash.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died. Anyone with information about the crash or the white SUV should contact the Florida Highway Patrol.
Multi-Vehicle Pedestrian Accidents
A pedestrian who is struck by more than one vehicle may have claims against multiple drivers. Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, an injured pedestrian may seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement and other damages. If the pedestrian dies, surviving family members may have a wrongful death claim.
These crashes can occur in several ways. For example:
- A driver strikes a pedestrian who is crossing the road, and a second vehicle runs over the pedestrian moments later.
- A pedestrian is thrown into another lane after the initial impact and is struck by another vehicle.
- A driver hits a pedestrian at night, and another motorist fails to see the person lying in the roadway.
- Multiple vehicles approaching an intersection collide with a pedestrian during a single sequence of events.
- A driver strikes a pedestrian and leaves the scene, after which another vehicle causes additional injuries.
Determining liability can be especially difficult when the pedestrian was struck several times within seconds. A thorough investigation may need to establish:
- Which vehicle struck the pedestrian first.
- Where the pedestrian was when each impact occurred.
- The speed and direction of each vehicle.
- Whether each driver had an opportunity to avoid the collision.
- What injuries resulted from each impact.
- Whether one driver’s conduct caused another driver to become involved.
- Whether any driver violated traffic laws.
