What To Do If The Other Driver Leaves The Scene Of The Accident

Listen as Michelle Incandela explains what to do if a driver leaves the scene of an accident.

Accidents are traumatic experiences. It can be even worse when you are dealing with a scenario involving a hit-and-run driver. If you find yourself in such a situation, there are some things that you want to make sure you pay attention to that can pay off down the road.

The most important thing is making sure that you get medical help for anyone that needs it. Health and safety should always come first in these situations.

After you have made sure that everyone involved in the accident has been taken care of, you’re going to want to observe the other driver and see if they are exhibiting any sings of extreme nervousness. Some signs can include not wanting to call the police or exchange information. Another thing you should do is take out your cell phone and take some pictures of the other vehicle’s license plate.

It’s difficult to speculate the possible reasons why another driver would leave the scene of an accident, but that is a job for the law enforcement office. It is not your responsibility to chase down or attempt to restrain the other driver. What we recommend that you do is take out your cell phone at the scene of the accident and shoot some pictures that will help you to document details that you may not remember later on.

Lastly, more information will be gathered after you call the police. It will result in them coming down and documenting what happened and perhaps finding the other driver. If the driver is not found, you may still make a claim under your uninsured motorist coverage if that is included in your policy. Watch the video to learn more.

I was referred to Draper Law by my father in-law after being hit from behind in an auto accident. I didn't realize, at the time, what an important decision I was making by hiring a personal injury attorney to represent me. Charles Draper took the time to explain the process and what I could expect. His professional team was there for me every step of the way through a long, and often complicated, legal experience. I just want to express my sincerest gratitude for all the efforts that were taken by Charlie and his team on my behalf in obtaining a settlement on my case.
