1 Killed, 1 Injured In Crash

ConcretePole

When driving, you need to be aware of other vehicles on the roadway. One wrong move can lead you into the direct path of another vehicle, causing a fatal crash.

Sadly, this was recently the case in Kissimmee. A crash killed one person and injured another. The fatal accident on the morning of February 19 at the intersection of South Orange Blossom Trail and Ham Brown Road.

A man was driving a Hyundai Sonata and heading west on South Orange Blossom Trail. When making a left turn onto Ham Brown Road, he entered the direct path of a Honda Civic. The two vehicles collided.

The impact caused the Civic to run off the roadway to the right. It collided with a concrete utility pole. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Brandon, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Sonata, an unidentified man, was taken to a local hospital but later died.

Law enforcement officials placed roadblocks at the intersection as crews cleaned up. The crash remains under investigation.

Inattention While Driving

When driving, you should be paying attention at all times. You should not let your mind wander, which can be very easy to do. You should be focused on the task of driving whenever you are behind the wheel.

When you are daydreaming or otherwise engaging in cognitive distraction while driving, this is called inattentive driving. This is different from distracted driving, since driver inattention does not really deal with any specific event. You may not have been texting, reading, or changing the radio station.

While often unintentional, driver inattention is a form of distracted driving that still makes it unsafe to drive, even though you may not take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

Driver inattention can be dangerous. It can cause you to enter the path of another vehicle or fail to yield the right of way at a stop light. You could end up hitting a pedestrian or bicyclist. You could hit another vehicle and cause a deadly crash.

Driver inattention may not seem like a big deal, but it is responsible for a large number of accidents each year. Mental distractions can make it difficult to concentrate, so it’s a good idea not to drive if you are feeling angry or overly emotional in some way. It is important to remove any potential distractions before getting behind the wheel.
