What Factors Determine An Alimony Award in Florida?

Listen as Kissimmee family law attorney, Linda Gruszynski explains what the court considers when deciding to award alimony in a divorce case.

First, they will consider the duration of marriage. Marriages may be classified as short, medium-length or long-term. A second consideration is the lifestyle established during marriage. Alimony may be awarded to assist a former spouse in continuing their established lifestyle.

Other considerations include the needs of the spouse requesting alimony and the ability of the other party to pay. If either of the parties are disabled or care for children, these will also be factors. The parties’ ages and abilities to earn a living similar to that enjoyed during the marriage will also affect the alimony decision. Watch the video to learn more.
