Loss Of Control Leads To 2 Accidents, 1 Fatality

One car accident is bad enough but what’s even worse is that it can lead to subsequent crashes. A vehicle occupant, in an attempt to get help, may exit the vehicle and cross a road, causing them to get hit by another vehicle.
This is what recently happened in Osceola County. A vehicle got into a crash. A passenger went to get help and was killed in a pedestrian crash. The fatal accident occurred in the early morning hours of May 26 on I-4 west near U.S. 192.
A 23-year-old man from Kissimmee was driving a Kia Forte when he lost control. The Kia became airborne and hit a tree and barrier wall. The vehicle then overturned on the exit ramp to U.S. 192, near Celebration.
The driver and his passenger, a 23-year-old Tennessee man went to get help. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, went to a nearby hotel to get help from law enforcement. He was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the Tennessee man was walking across the I-4 eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes when he was hit by an oncoming Honda Odyssey. The man was then hit by another vehicle. He died at the accident scene.
I-4 west was closed for a while. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating the crashes.
Subsequent Car Crashes
Subsequent car crashes or secondary crashes typically refers to multiple collisions that occur after an initial car crash. They may involve the same vehicles or new ones. These crashes may occur within the accident scene, or in the traffic queue or backup created by the initial incident. These subsequent accidents can complicate personal injury claims, making it harder to determine the extent of injuries related to the first accident.
Subsequent car crashes can happen in several contexts:
- Chain-reaction crashes. These occur when a crash causes a ripple effect. For example, if one car rear-ends another, the impact might push the first vehicle into another, resulting in subsequent impacts.
- Post-collision hazards. Sometimes, after an initial crash, other drivers may collide with disabled vehicles or debris, creating additional accidents at the scene.
- Accidents after exiting the vehicle. In this case, a man was killed after he exited the vehicle and went to get help. Acting as a pedestrian on busy interstates is very dangerous. Unfortunately, many people are hit by vehicles as they try to get help.
