Woman Crashes Into HCA Florida Osceola Hospital

ER2

Sometimes car accidents are just that: accidents. Then there are those that are intentional and happen on purpose.

A woman who was discharged from a Florida hospital and accused of trespassing took her actions a step further and crashed into the emergency department. The incident happened on the evening of April 20.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested after driving her vehicle through the ER entrance to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in Kissimmee. The woman was discharged from the hospital after being prescribed pills that allegedly were not helping her.  A woman standing next to the glass doors of the ER entrance claimed that she saw the woman leave the property and then drive straight into it just a moment later.

Right after crashing her car, the woman exited the vehicle through the passenger’s side. She attempted to flee the accident scene, despite a Kissimmee police officer’s commands. Police were able to catch up to the woman and they performed an arm bar takedown to detain her.

Police said they spoke with the woman but could not get her to describe what happened after she left the hospital. She claimed she couldn’t remember the events. However, the woman was able to verbally tell police about the weak prescription. Also, the woman repeatedly yelled, “They did not want to take care of me.”

The hospital intends to prosecute the woman for causing the crash. She faces multiple criminal charges, including criminal mischief of $1,000 or more, trespassing, and resisting arrest without violence. She is currently being held without bond.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident. Despite the crash, the ER remained open, with visitors being directed to a side door to enter the building. The incident is still under investigation.

Intentional Car Crashes

Car accidents are typically called accidents because most people don’t want to intentionally cause a crash. However, there are some exceptions. For example, there have been stories about people intentionally driving off cliffs to kill everyone inside the vehicle. Or with social media use on the rise, there have been TikTok challenges challenging viewers to crash into vehicles for the fun of it.

Whether a crash is intentional or accidental, it is not fun in any way. People often get hurt. Plus, the damage caused to a vehicle is hard to fix. Even if you have auto insurance, you’ll have to go through the claims process. At the minimum, it is inconvenient.

So who pays for the damage? Getting compensation from the other driver can be difficult, and they may not have sufficient assets to pay for your damages anyway. If you have auto insurance, they should pay up. A lawyer can help you with the process.
