1 Killed, 1 Injured In Buena Ventura Lakes Accident

Accident_HeadOn2

Many car accidents happen while someone is turning. They don’t know ahead of time where they will end up, causing them to collide with another vehicle.

Sadly, this recently happened in Florida. A man was killed and another man was injured after a near head-on crash in Buena Ventura Lakes. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of March 21.

The accident occurred at Buenaventura Boulevard and Oakwood Drive. A man was driving a Toyota Prius and heading east on Oakwood Drive. He was approaching Buenaventura Boulevard in the left turn lane. At the same time, a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 33-year-old Kissimmee man, was heading south on Buenaventura Boulevard. It was in the inside lane as it approached Oakwood Drive.

The driver of the Prius attempted to take a left turn onto northbound Buenaventura Boulevard. That was when it entered the direct path of the Nissan. The two vehicles collided, with the front of the Nissan hitting the left side of the Prius. The impact caused the Prius to go off the road.

The driver of the Toyota, a 60-year-old Kissimmee man, died at the accident scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Dangers of Making Turns

Making a right or left turn while driving is not always an easy task. There are many things that can happen that can lead to an accident or other issue. Here’s a look at some of them:

  • Loss of control. A driver needs to be in control of their vehicle while driving. Inadequate handling or excessive speed during a turn can lead to loss of control over the vehicle. This can cause the vehicle to go into an adjacent lane.
  • Overturning occurs when a vehicle or object tilts too far to one side during a turn, often due to excessive speed or sharp steering. This can cause the vehicle to roll over.
  • Skidding. Skidding occurs when traction is lost between the tires and the road surface, often due to factors such as wet or icy roads, worn tires, or excessive speed. Attempting to turn while skidding can lead to a loss of control.
  • Pedestrian and bicyclist hazards. Turning vehicles pose a significant hazard to pedestrians and bicyclists, especially at intersections and crosswalks. Failure to yield or check for cyclists before making a turn can lead to serious accidents.
