4 Injured In Fiery 3-Car Crash

Crashes involving multiple vehicles can be devastating. They can lead to cars catching fire as well as serious injuries.
Four people were recently injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Orlando. Three vehicles were involved in the fiery accident. The crash occurred on the evening of October 29 at the intersection of Wetherbee Road near Sir Winston Way and Bisted Drive.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Wetherbee Road near Sir Winston Way and Bisted Drive in Orlando. A Nissan Altima was heading east when it collided with an Infiniti QX60 that was making a left turn onto southbound Bisted Drive. The impact caused the Infiniti to spin and hit a Chevrolet Suburban, which was stopped at the intersection.
All three vehicles caught fire and were engulfed in flames. A 17-year-old from Kissimmee was driving the Nissan. A 76-year-old man from Orlando was driving the Infiniti, with a 9-month-old baby as a passenger. A 41-year-old man from Orlando was the driver of the Chevrolet. All were taken to local hospitals for medical treatment.
Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the accident scene and put out the fires. The accident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Dangers of Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Multi-vehicle crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents due to their complexity and scale. These crashes often occur on highways or interstates where vehicles are traveling at high speeds. When one vehicle suddenly brakes or loses control, the close spacing and limited reaction time can cause multiple cars to collide.
The dangers include severe injuries or fatalities, as occupants may be struck multiple times from different directions. Secondary impacts often lead to crushed vehicles, fires, or hazardous material spills. Emergency responders also face difficulty reaching victims due to wreckage spread over large areas. In addition, liability becomes complicated, as fault must be divided among several drivers. Poor weather, distracted driving, or speeding often increase the risk. Preventing multi-vehicle crashes requires maintaining safe distances, avoiding sudden stops, and staying alert to road conditions.
Why Do Vehicles Catch Fire After a Crash?
Vehicles can catch fire after a crash for several reasons, usually involving a combination of fuel, heat, and sparks. When a collision occurs, the impact can rupture the fuel tank or fuel lines, causing gasoline or diesel to leak. If that fuel comes into contact with hot engine parts, electrical sparks, or friction-generated heat, it can ignite.
Modern cars also contain numerous electrical systems, such as batteries, wiring, and sensors. These can short-circuit or spark upon impact. In high-speed crashes, crushed metal or punctured batteries (especially in hybrid and electric vehicles) can trigger thermal runaway, causing fires that are difficult to extinguish. In addition, engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant can act as accelerants once ignited.
