Man Killed In Crash In Volusia County

Driving is not an easy task. Unfortunately, many people have died in crashes caused by seemingly minor mistakes.
Many people get into serious car crashes by leaving the roadway and sadly, this is what recently happened to a driver in Florida. A man was killed after running off the road and crashing into a fence. The fatal accident occurred on June 20 on Interstate 4 in Volusia County.
A Chevrolet Equinox was heading east near mile marker 128 in the center lane when the SUV went off the right side of the road and went onto the grassy shoulder. The Equinox then went into a ditch and hit a fence. The impact caused the SUV to overturn several times. It stopped when it came to a rest on its left side.
The driver was only described as an adult man. He died at the accident scene. It is unknown why the man drove off the road. No other vehicles were involved. The crash is still under investigation.
Effects of Vehicles Going off the Road
Run-off-road crashes are often among the most severe types of traffic accidents because vehicles can strike fixed objects or overturn after leaving the roadway. Using seat belts, maintaining safe speeds, and staying attentive are key measures that reduce both the likelihood and severity of these incidents.
Common contributing factors include:
- Speeding
- Distracted driving
- Fatigue
- Impaired driving
- Poor weather conditions
- Mechanical failures
- Avoidance maneuvers to avoid another hazard
Vehicles leaving the roadway can have a wide range of effects, depending on speed, terrain, weather, and what the vehicle strikes. Common consequences include:
- Injuries or fatalities: Occupants may experience impacts from sudden deceleration, rollovers, collisions with trees, poles, rocks, or other obstacles.
- Whiplash and soft-tissue injuries: Even lower-speed run-off-road events can cause neck, back, and muscle injuries.
- Ejection risk: If seat belts are not used, occupants may be partially or fully ejected from the vehicle, greatly increasing injury severity.
- Damage to tires, suspension, and steering systems from uneven terrain or striking curbs and ditches.
- Body and frame damage from collisions or rollovers.
- Mechanical failures that may occur after impact, such as fluid leaks or damaged braking components.
- Disruption of utilities if power or communication lines are struck.
- Traffic delays due to emergency response and vehicle recovery.
- Repair and medical costs.
- Increased insurance claims and potential legal consequences.
There could also be damage to roadside features such as guardrails, utility poles, fences, signs, and buildings
