Woman Killed In Osceola County Hit And Run Accident

After an accident, drivers are supposed to stop at the scene, exchange information, and provide medical treatment, if necessary. But in many cases, this does not happen. Many motorists flee the scene, leaving behind the wreckage and injured victims, many who sadly die from their injuries.
Unfortunately, this was recently the case in Osceola County. A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident on the morning of June 11.
The fatal crash occurred in a neighborhood on Florida Parkway, near Birchwood Circle in Kissimmee. A vehicle was heading north on Florida Parkway. At the same time, a woman was allegedly running on Florida Parkway in the northbound lane ahead of the vehicle.
The vehicle then hit the 40-year-old woman for unknown reasons. The vehicle fled the scene.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers, there is no information about the vehicle nor the driver of the vehicle. Investigators are searching for the driver and are asking for anyone with information to come forward.
Why Do Hit and Runs Occur?
Hit and run accidents occur for a variety of reasons. Common motivations include:
- Fear of arrest. Drivers who are intoxicated, unlicensed, uninsured, or driving a stolen vehicle may flee to avoid criminal charges.
- Panic or shock. Some drivers react impulsively due to the suddenness of the accident, especially if it’s their first crash.
- Lack of responsibility. A driver might not want to face the cost of damages or injuries and tries to avoid being held accountable.
- Unawareness. In minor collisions (especially involving pedestrians or parked cars), some drivers may genuinely not realize they hit something or someone.
- Legal issues. Drivers with legal issues such as outstanding warrants or immigration concerns may flee to avoid further scrutiny from law enforcement.
In Florida, leaving the scene of an accident carries serious legal consequences. The penalties vary depending on the severity of the crash and whether injuries or property damage occurred. Here’s a breakdown:
- Property damage only (no injuries). Second-degree misdemeanor charge, with penalties such as up to 60 days in jail, 6 months probation, and a $500 fine
- Injuries involved. Third-degree felony charge, with penalties such as up to five years in prison, five years probation, a $5,000 fine, and driver’s license revoked for at least three years
- Serious bodily injury involved. Second-degree felony charge, with penalties such as up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.]
- Death involved. First-degree felony charge, with penalties such as up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine
