Woman Steals Car From Car Wash, Crashes Into Tanker

Car accidents can happen when you least expect it. Sometimes you may not even be the one driving. You could step out of your vehicle momentarily, only to have someone steal it and total it, leaving your life in disarray.
This is what recently happened in Kissimmee. While the owner of the car was not harmed, she is now without a car. Being a pregnant single mother, she has concerns about her financial future.
The incident happened on July 7. A woman had left her car running at Big Dan’s Car Wash in Kissimmee. She was cleaning the floor mats and was just 5 feet away from her vehicle when an unknown woman jumped in and sped off.
A witness saw the suspect nearly ran over multiple people as she drove to Vine Street and Thacker Avenue. Surveillance video from Express Phone Repair shows the vehicle crossing the center divide. The vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles, including a gas tanker, before hitting a light pole. The accident caused more than $20,000 in damage to the car wash.
An officer responded to the theft soon after and spotted a white Hyundai Sonata matching the stolen vehicle’s description. The officer witnessed the crash and approached the car. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was slumped over the wheel.
The officer checked on the woman, but she became combative, accusing him of wanting to shoot her and threatening to fight. The officer used a stun gun on her twice after she went toward him with clenched fists.
It is unknown what happened to the suspect. The owner of the vehicle, while not injured, was taken to the hospital out of precaution, being that she is eight months pregnant. She said the scene at the hospital was chaotic, with police officers taking statements from everybody. There were multiple victims from the other vehicles the suspect had hit.
The incident was stressful for the woman. Not only was her vehicle totaled in the crash, but she had diapers in the vehicle at the time. She could not salvage much from those diapers, as there were shards of glass in them.
Helen has reached out to her insurance provider, but with a lack of coverage, she does not think she will get any money to purchase a new car. She created a GoFundMe to raise money. She wrote that” The emotional and physical impact of this incident is overwhelming. The sense of violation, fear, and helplessness I felt in that moment, and still feel now, is difficult to put into words.” She has raised more than $4,000 so far.
