Woman Killed In Pedestrian Crash While Carrying Infant Girl

CarseatTravel2

Most mothers are always looking out for their children but ironically, mothers are often the ones who need to be looked over. They often get into dangerous situations, causing them to get involved in catastrophic or even fatal accidents.

This was recently the case in Seminole County. A 24-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian crash on State Road 46 on the morning of April 14 in Geneva. She was carrying her baby in a car seat at the time of the accident.

The woman was walking westbound along State Road 46 in the travel lane near Jungle Road when she was hit by a Ford F-350 pickup truck. The driver was a 58-year-old man from Winter Springs.

The woman died at the accident scene. However, the infant was not injured. She was taken to Orlando Health Lake Mary as a precaution. The driver stopped and remained at the accident scene. He was not injured.

State Road 46 was shut down for nearly five hours that morning but later reopened. Family members of the victim said their hearts are “completely broken.” The woman was described as a loving mother, daughter and friend. She was a young mother of two children, ages 9 months and 1 ½ years old. The child she was carrying during the crash is her daughter. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help financially support her children.

People who live near the area say the stretch of State Road 46 is dangerous. One neighbor said it is especially scary at night because the roadway is poorly lit. That area has seen multiple serious crashes over the years.

Law enforcement officials are still trying to determine why the woman was walking along the roadway at that time of night, as she did not live in the area and it was so early in the morning. The driver does not face any criminal charges at this time, but the crash is still under investigation.

While pedestrians have the right to be on the road (to a certain degree), walking at night in the dark is not always safe. Visibility is reduced and motorists are often tired or intoxicated, making the roads much more dangerous. Not only are there traffic hazards, but environmental hazards as well, since uneven sidewalks, potholes, debris, and animals are harder to spot in the dark. Plus, there is a higher risk of crimes such as theft and assaults. If you do decide to walk at night, avoid busy streets, wear reflective clothing, and carry a flashlight.
