Teen Killed In Motorcycle Crash Near St. Cloud

Many teens are attracted to motorcycles, and why not? They offer fun and freedom. However, these vehicles have no enclosure, unlike passenger vehicles, so accidents are often deadly.

Sadly, this was recently the case in Osceola County. A teen motorcyclist was killed after he lost control and was ejected from his bike. The fatal accident occurred in the early morning hours of March 4 on U.S. 192.

The teen rider was operating a Suzuki GSX-R750 and heading south on Botanic Boulevard. The motorcyclist attempted to enter eastbound U.S. 192 (E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway) when they lost control.

The rider laid the motorcycle down and it slid across the paved median. The bike went into oncoming traffic and was hit by a Toyota Corolla that was heading east. The teen was ejected from the motorcycle due to the impact of the crash. The rider died at the accident scene.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 42-year-old woman from Palm Bay, was not injured. Investigators from the Florida Highway Patrol FHP believe that another vehicle may have been involved in the crash, but there is no further information at this time. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

• Risk-taking behavior. Adolescents’ brains are still developing, particularly the prefrontal cortex, which governs judgment and impulse control. This can lead to thrill-seeking behaviors, such as speeding, racing, performing stunts, or weaving through traffic.
• Peer pressure. Teens are highly influenced by friends, and if they ride in groups, they may feel pressure to show off or take unnecessary risks to impress others. This could mean popping wheelies or riding too fast.
